“German Shepherd Locates 90-Year-Old Woman Who Was Lost In The Woods Overnight”

When a 90-year-old woman got lost in the woods near her home in Birmingham, Alabama, rescue workers were desperate to find her. But after 12 hours with no success, they knew they needed help and just where to get it.

According to ABC News, Loudell Hubbard, the 90-year-old woman, went missing from her home in Birmingham. She was lost overnight and with each hour that passed, her situation got more desperate.

Search and rescue officers were called and began searching the woods near her home. But after 12 hours, they still hadn’t found her. They knew they needed help, so they turned to K9 Saby. If anyone could find her, K9 Saby could.

K9 Saby who was known to be a great search and rescue dog with a nose that “wouldn’t quit.” Once he started searching, it wasn’t long before he tracked the elderly woman to a creek, where she had slept through the night, using her purse as a pillow.

K9 Saby led Richard Wright and Dustin Brock, two officers in the Birmingham Police SRT K9 Unit, right to Hubbard. The officers credit the K9 for saving the woman’s life. They found her cold and wet, but otherwise, she was going to be okay.

Hubbard suffers from dementia and got lost when she wandered away from her home. Somehow, she walked a mile and a half and found herself lost in the woods. Unable to remember how to get home and with no way to call for help, she ended up sleeping in the woods overnight.

It is believed that Hubbard, who normally uses a cane but left it at home, may have stumbled and fallen in the woods. About the ordeal, Officer Brock said:

“The same time Richard came around the corner Saby was pulling me towards the creek. I came around and she was laying in the creek.”

Wright said, “I yelled ‘Ma’am can you hear me?’ She raised her head up and then we just went to her.”

Her friend and neighbor Frederick Jones was very thankful that she was found safe, he said:

“At the time, everyone was still hopeful. They had faith and was positive,” Jones said. “Joy. It was a joy. Everybody was just elated. Everybody was thanking God and just elated. Really it brought tears to your eyes that she was ok.”

Jones pointed to the Bible for how and why looking out for each other is important. “The scripture tells us to love thy neighbor as thy self. That’s where we are with this.”

Everyone was happy to help in the search and glad for a good outcome. Officer Wright said:
“When we got the call, I was thinking if it was my grandmother, I would hope someone would use all resources to go find her.”

Thanks to K9 Saby for quickly finding the woman, who was taken to a local hospital. She was expected to recover and thankfully, didn’t have any serious injuries. We hope you enjoyed this amazing rescue story, please feel free to share it with your friends.
